SpongeBob SquarePants

I've always been a fan of SpongeBob, but what is it that makes it so good. Well, for me its these...

After watching the shining and seeing exaggerated faces in there, there even better in Spongebob.

These first few are pretty normal, but still brilliant...

they stretch the facial expressions, making their face's unique for a few seconds.

this sequence is good, it keeps cutting back and fourth from mr. crabs then spongebob and Patric. each time spongebob and patric's face is different.

Patric ripped off some sticky tape from Spongebobs mouth...

His eyes are mouths

this is somthing thats good about Squarepants, sometimes they go into a close up, and the closeup is a painting, its always proper detailed..

in this one, spongebob's eyes fall out like egg yolk...

dosn't he look beautiful..

Its things like this that make Spongebob Squarepants so unique, they must have got inspration from Robert Clampett, who's cartoons were so unique, you could tell a Clampett looney tunes cartoon from a Chuck Jones.
Cartoons need to loosen up a bit more, especially 3D ones, there must be a way of incorporating exaggeration (of a Spongebob or Clampett level) into a 3D cartoon. Especially kids cartoons.

Stuart's Tomatoes

Maybe its because he doesn't have to look after my sister and me anymore...or maybe its because he's having a delayed midlife crisis, what ever it is, my dad decided to grow tomatoes and potatoes...i thought the tomatoes looked hilarious...

I took these pictures when he wasn't guarding them...

By the way, even though they look totally ridiculous, we still ate them...

This one was my favorite (below) it has a lovely face...

My Saturday Night

Was looking through the images I grabbed from 'the shining' and thought I'd draw a couple...Some are good some are bad...

This was my first one
The one on the left was my first attempt and the reason it looks bad is mainly because I was being too cautious, I tried to do the eyes exact and so on. The one to the right is a much looser one, its not suppose to be exact, that's the beauty of drawing...

Second..

Third...

fourth...

Fifth.....

Sixth?...

Faces In The Shining

Watched this film about two days ago, really liked it, loved the shots of the kid on the bike riding round the house.

What I loved the most about 'The Shining' is the facial expressions, especially the kid's when he looks shocked/ scared, Kubrick just cuts to his face looking absolutely terrified which makes you just as terrified! there kinda exaggerated as well which is really good, in animation to make something look realistic you have to exaggerate the expression, these actors do that well.

Even before Jack Nicholson turns crazy, he has some amazing facial expressions.

As he's starting to become crazy, Kubrick, in this scene, holds the camera on Nicholson for a good 15-30 seconds. When you watch it in the film, you can see how good the expression on his face is.

This is one of a few of the terrified faces

These two (above and below) show how Nicholson is constantly changing his emotions.

Here's another shot which is held for a good 30 seconds, there's something really creepy about theses shots.

Love this camera angle, below, really nice.

Shelley Duvall, who plays Wendy, just looks exhausted and on the brink of collapsing throughout the second half of the film.

Love Jack Nicolsons improvisation here (below)

The next four screen grabs, shows Jack just before he takes an axe to the bathroom door. He quotes the story of the three little pigs, "I'll huff and I'll puff" etc...

This guy confuses me.

Even when frozen, he has a great facial expression

Saved the best till last....this is from 'A Clockwork Orange', this guys face is just the best thing ever.
